This posting summarizes what I have learned from the previous posting “Do you think Palnet “holds no value” and disagree with minnowsupport bot? “ and what I am going to do due to the conversation we had on that posting.

Primary reason of writing the previous post: the value of SCT

When I wrote the previous article, I wanted to discuss how one may think that SCT has no real value, as I believe that SCT (or steemcoinpan) was one of the most successful steem engine tribes so far in terms of trading volume, price, tag ranking (currently 2nd), number of active users, etc.

It seems that I was not aware of the more important issue

But it seems that lots of readers found different topic a lot more interesting, which is downvoting regarding buying/selling votes. And if I add one more, about whether a post is going to the trending section. It seems that buying/selling votes was a big, hot topic and the trending section was a big deal too. So I’ve been missing lots of “important” trends.

As I have stated before, I have never used non-steem engine bid bots before so I don’t know much about issues regarding “traditional” bid bots. And I have seldom looked at the trending section (basically unless I misclick or someone specifically asks to read one) and only read my feed, I did not know (And hence did not care) that whether my posts (or others’ posts) were on steemit trending section.

Wide Spectrum: Opinions

Going through replies and messages (including discord ones), I have learned a lot.

While it is impossible to reach consensus, I believe that most people would okay with the following summary:

Buying votes that makes “lower quality” postings to the trending section is bad.

and of course there are wide range of opinions.

some people think that any vote buying/selling should be downvoted.

some think that “small amount” vote buying is fine.

some think that vote sellers should be contacted/dealt with first.

some think that it is up to users’ decision.

some think that downvote is bad.

some think that downvote is necessary evil.

some think that downvote is great.

I may go on and on, but I guess you are already tired of reading it.

Moving on: Let’s see how these new movements work out

I still believe that there is a better way to downvote and/or communicate. However, now I understand where these downvote arguments are coming from.

While I am pretty much neutral to buying/selling votes, I felt that I would prefer to not get involved in unnecessary arguments regarding vote buying or downvoting.

And I also agree that there should be some changes, given continuously decreasing active users and steem prices. Why not wait to see how these new “movements” would end up?

So I decided to

1. Not use steem-engine bots, in particular SCT and steemmonsters

2. Undelegate my SP from SCT and Steemmonsters, as my undelegating would reduce the SP of the bot (while small) and it will actually help the users from these bots by reducing chance of hitting trending.

Wide Spectrum: Attitude and Behavior

People may have different thoughts. In fact, they do have different opinions. The more important aspect is how one communicates.

Attitude toward the posting and how people presented their feelings/opinions were diverse too.

Some are considerate and kind, while some are rude and low-level.

Some are adamant and stubborn, while some are open.

Some are informative and contributed knowledge and thoughts, while some are close to ignorant.

Some actually practice what they preach, which some are close to hypocrites (I thank @blanchy for pointing this out)

Wrapping up…

I am not sure whether I would continue writing articles in English, as I will continue to focus on the Korean community (and steemmonsters, of course) and SCT(steemcoinpan).

But I would like to express my gratitude for many steemians who shared their thoughts and enhanced my understanding. Just to name a few:

Recently, I learned that some Korean users, including myself, were downvoted by users that they do not know. I didn’t really know why that happened.

And several hours ago, I found that @whatsup and @tarazkp left replies after downvoting.

First of all, thank you for leaving your opinions so that now I can see where it comes from.

I have close to zero communication experience with @tarazkp, but from his high reputation(77) I assume that he has been around for a long time. All I can tell him is that I believe that it is inappropriate to “attack”(downvote) others if you yourself even are not sure what/why you are doing (“very limited understanding”, if I use a direct quote.)

Now @whatsup ‘s reply.

Let’s start with this part: “the token which has no real value”

So you are saying that SCT has no value. What is your reason?

SCT is the community token for steemcoinpan, one of the earliest steem-engine based communities. And it is also one of the most successful community so far, based on tag usage, user activities, market cap, transaction volume, etc.

Following your logic, I would say that palnet is also “the token has no real value”. And I learned that you yourself use the palnet tag too. Let me ask you this question:

What is the difference between palnet and sct? is it only because you know people in palnet and don’t know people in sct?

Second part: “having people bid with SCT token to receive large steem votes”

Okay. It seems that you do not like “steem engine bid bots” that accept steem engine token and bid. It is your preference and I understand that people may have different thoughts.

But have you applied the same criteria to other bid bots, including palnet bid bot (@minnowsupport), steemleo bot (@steem.leo), etc.?

• As far as I know, no. You have not downvoted these bot users. Seems inconsistent.

• Update: it seems that some users do not even know what are being discussed.

• sct.voter accepts SCT (steemcoinpan token)

• minnowsupport accepts PAL (palnet token)

The only difference is the symbol: structure is the same.

Oh, and one more difference - the amount of steem power that the project supporters delegated to the bot.

I would like to know how steem engine tribe people, including @aggroed and @yabapmatt, regarding this issue.

I believe that downvoting on postings merely based on the fact that they have used steem engine token bid bots will

1. Discourage steem engine tribe community participation, which would reduce steemit community participation at the same time.

2. Negative effect on steem prices as some users may feel disappointed of them receiving downvotes and choose not to power-up or even power down.

• I seldom write in English as I mostly communicate with kr(Korean) users. But for this issue, I should use English.

공짜로 다운보팅을 할 수 있게 되면서, 예전과 비할 바 없이 다운보팅이 많아졌습니다. 많은 분들이 톡방이나 포스팅 등으로 다운보팅 경험을 공유해주고 계시는데요.

저도 다운보팅 몇 번 맞았지만 요즘은 거의 안 맞고 있는데, 이유는 다음과 같지 않을까 합니다:

1. 보팅봇을 포스팅 후 시간이 지나고 써서: 포스팅 작성 후 단시간 내에 많은 보팅을 받으면 대세글 위쪽으로 가던데, 그러면 위험합니다. 대세글 위쪽에 덜 올라갈수록 다운봇 확률이 줄어드는 것 같군요.

2. krwp 베네피셔리 세팅: 저자보상 상위 리스트에 올라가면 좀더 위험해 보입니다. 베네피셔리 세팅으로 내가 스팀을 직접 수령하지 않게 되면 리스트에 안 잡히는 것 같더군요.

3. 스팀몬스터 보팅봇을 안 써서: 몇몇 유저가 스몬 보팅봇 쓰는 경우에 대해서 자동으로 다운보팅을 걸어둔 것 같더군요. 그게 아니라면 보상액수가 엄청 높은 것도 아닌 마라바라님 글 등에 다운봇이 가는게 이해가 안되거든요. 오늘 스몬 톡방에서 이야기를 듣고 직접 찾아보니 정말 그런듯합니다.

좀전에 다른 글인 다운보팅이 지속되면 누가 스팀을 살까? 에서 언급했듯이, 저는 다운보팅이 이대로 가면 얼마 안되지만 스팀 파워다운하고 손절할까도 생각중입니다.

다만 그와 무관하게, 활동하는 동안은 적어도 다운보팅을 덜 맞는 방법을 강구해야겠죠.

어릴 때부터 들어왔던 많은 교훈들 중 가장 와닿았던 것은, 언행일치, 즉 말과 행동을 일치시키라는 것이었다. 생각해 보면 어린 나이의 제한적 경험에서도, 자신이 말하는 것과 행동하는 것이 달랐던 경우들을 많이 봤던 듯하다.

어른이 된 후에는, 말과 행동이 다른 경우를 너무 많이 봐서 무덤덤해지고 있는 것 같다.

처음에는 왜 자신의 말을 지키지 않지? 라고 생각하며 이해할 수가 없었는데, 요즘은 이정도로 많이 보이는 현상이면 나름의 이유가 있지 않을까 하는 생각을 한다. 나름대로 떠올려 본 이유는 다음의 세 가지:

1. 말과 행동이 달라도 딱히 문제가 없음: 말은 좋게 하고 행동은 나쁘게 해도 딱히 처벌받는 것이 없다면, 행동을 좋게 할 인센티브가 줄어드니까.

2. 말과 행동이 다르다는 사실 자체를 인지하지 못함: 이게 정말 큰 것 같다. “내로남불” 이란 말처럼, 남과 자신에게 적용하는 잣대가 한없이 달라서.

3. 나는 다르다, 라고 생각함: 규칙이나 법 등은 지켜지는 것이 원칙적으로 맞으나, 그건 “일반인들” 이야기고 이런저런 이유로 나는 적용대상이 아님.

“말”을 액면 그대로 받아들였다가 고생했던 하루를 마치며 감성적으로 글을 썼네요.

언행일치가 어렵다고 보고, “언” 에는 비중을 적게 두고 “행” 에 주목하는 것이 맞는 듯 합니다.

오늘 스몬 시즌이 끝났습니다. 이번 시즌에는… 50위 안에도 들지 못했네요.

개인적으로는 좀 충격입니다. 내가 이렇게 실력이 없었던가, 하는 생각이 들기도 했는데, 어찌 보면 당연한 수순인 듯 합니다.

새로운 강자들은 속속 들어오고 엄청난 현질을 바탕으로 한 (봇으로 추정되는) “람보르기니” 군단들에게도 연구 없으니 속절없이 패하네요.

오전 골드 카드 토너에서 준우승으로 아쉬움을 남기며 시작했습니다.

람보르기니 계정들 중 골카용 계정과 결승에서 만났는데, 2:3으로 아깝게 패배.

그런데 운은 오래 가지 않았습니다. 오후 5시에 끝나는 래더 시즌에서 막판 2연패로 50위 밖으로 밀리며 마무리. 마지막날 게임을 할 수 있었는데도 50위에도 못 든 것은 처음인듯 합니다.

그리고 같은 시각 시작되었던 제 주종목 골드 카드 골드 레벨 토너.

그런데 극초반에 오전에 결승에서 만났던 계정을 다시 만나서 허무하게 0:2로 패하며 탈락.

좀더 스몬에 신경을 쓰지 않으면… 이제는 입상이 어렵겠다는 위기감을 진지하게 느낀 하루였습니다.

추석 연휴도 끝나가고 있습니다. 개인적으로 분석할 것이 있어서 하다 보니 어느새 시간이 훅 가버렸네요.

와우 클래식이 나왔는데 (오치님, 징스님 등 많은 분들이 이미 하고 계신 것으로 알고 있습니다) 해보지도 못하고. 요즘은 시간과 정신적 여력이 없어서 이미 하던 게임들이나 가끔 살펴보는 정도인듯 합니다.

우선 스몬. 올려놓았던 카드들은 거의 다 팔렸는데, 그 당시로서는 상당한 고가에 올려놓고 까먹고 있던 것들이 이렇게 가끔 팔리곤 합니다.

저 아이디는 실버 레벨 리그 정도에서 오래 전부터 보았던 아이디인데, 아마 만렙 만들려고 위로 쭉 긁은 것이 아닌가 생각합니다. 지금은 다시 카드당 0.09불 정도 가격으로 낮아졌어요.

• 스몬 래더는 내일 마감인데… 내일 골드 카드 토너들과 함께 좀 해봐야겠습니다.

다음은 넥스트콜로니. 지구 근처로 고오급 탐사선 (explorer II) 들을 날려서 로또 전진기지 찾기를 시도해 왔는데, 드디어 하나 걸렸습니다.

전진기지를 노리며 탐사선II를 보낸 유저들의 흔적이 듬성듬성 나 있습니다. 주변이 전부 미개척지인 곳에 드디어 거점 확보!

• 넥스트콜로니는 행성 찾는맛에 하는듯합니다. 생산은 봇이 알아서 해주고, 전투다운 전투는 딱히 없으니…
